Our family’s story began with two mules, a wagon, and a willingness to work.
In the early 1920s, J.L. Cone Sr. began laying brick roads for the City of Tampa. Those humble beginnings became Cone Brothers Contracting Co., helping build the roads and highways that connected a growing Florida.
The family’s work expanded into mining and construction materials through Tampa Sand & Materials and Florida Mining & Materials. Across generations, the Cone family helped supply the essential materials behind Florida’s communities, businesses, and infrastructure.
